AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 MK III BJ8 Sports Convertible

This 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III is finished in British Racing Green over tan leather, and power is by its original 2.9-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. This big Healey was built in May 1965, and the seller purchased it from a dealer in Colorado in 2008. The car reportedly was restored on the East Coast under previous ownership, and the interior was changed from black to its current tan. Modifications include a spin-on oil filter and new horns, and the removed oil filter cartridge and horns are included. This Austin-Healey is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate.

The Mk III cars differed from prior versions primarily in the design of the rear subframe, which offered increased ground clearance. Finished in British Racing Green, this car reportedly was repainted and bodywork performed during the refurbishment approximately 12 years ago. The Mk III features a curved windshield and vent windows. This Healey was equipped from new with chrome wire wheels with knock off hubs. Michelin XZX tires were installed approximately 400 miles ago. The four-seat interior was reupholstered from its original black to the current tan under previous ownership. Roll-up windows and burl wood dash veneers are featured. The rear jump seats have a fold-down seat back. A wood-rimmed steering wheel is mounted to an adjustable column and frames Smith's instrumentation. The tachometer has been cleaned and calibrated, and the five-digit odometer shows just over 69k miles, approximately 11k of which have been added by the previous and current owners. The toggle switch for the electric overdrive is located on the dash.



The 2,912cc inline-six is original to the car and features dual SU carburetors. It is paired with a four-speed manual gearbox with electrically actuated overdrive. The seller performed a complete fluid change in 2019, which included oil and filter change, trans fluid change, Rear diff and a brake flush. The fuel tank has been flushed, sealed, and repainted, and the radiator and battery also have been replaced under previous ownership. In addition, the Carburetors were rebuilt and an electronic ignition was installed. Within the past 1k miles the car has received new lower kingpin bushings, an alignment, a new stainless-steel exhaust system, and a new front steering-box seal. Previous work done included new rear-wheel cylinders, rear brake shoes, front brake pads, and front-suspension bushings.


The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows the car was originally finished in British Racing Green over a black interior and was equipped with overdrive, wire wheels, heater, adjustable steering column, laminated windshield, and whitewall tires. It was dispatched to New York in May 1965. The serial number listed for the engine matches that shown affixed to the block in the gallery.
