The Espada was born in 1968 and surprisingly became the best seller of the Sant'Agata Bolognese brand for about ten years, surpassing even the Miura. It was the first 4-seater Lamborghini, a "limousine" disguised as a Gran Turismo aimed at a high-end customers. During the 1967 Monaco Grand Prix, Prince Rainier III paraded on the Monegasque track before the Formula 1 Grand Prix behind the wheel of an unusual Gran Turismo, longer than normal and very modern, mainly due to the large glass surfaces and the wedge line: it was the Lamborghini Marzal, a prototype commissioned by Ferruccio Lamborghini from Nuccio Bertone that had been presented a few weeks earlier at the Geneva Motor Show.
With some aesthetic changes that, however, kept the style of the very low coupé almost unchanged, the Marzal soon became the new Lamborghini Espada, the first 4-seater of the Sant'Agata Bolognese company. Few could imagine that his career would last ten years. From 1968 to 1978, in fact, the Lamborghini Espada at the time was the best-selling Lamborghini ever with about 1,200 examples, representing the most profitable model for the financial statements of the Emilian manufacturer, whose ownership in 1972 will pass from Ferruccio Lamborghini to the Swiss Georges- Henri Rossetti. The result of the pencil of Marcello Gandini and of the design genius of the engineer Paolo Stanzani, the Espada was fitted with a mechanics derived from the 400 GT.
The engine was a 3,929cc V12 powered by six Weber double-barrel carburettors and was the first Lambo to be offered, upon request, in an automatic version, a Chrysler 3-speed gearbox, as an alternative to the 5-speed manual gearbox. In the second and third series, the power of the engine was increased from 325 to 350 HP, which allowed a top speed to rise from 245 to 260 km/h. In addition to performance, its highlight was the interior, with a spacious interior entirely covered in leather and fine finishes. The four individual armchairs offered adequate comfort to its wealthy and demanding customers, who in the “Vip” version were also offered a Brionvega color TV, placed between the front seats, a real treat for the time. The parable of the Lamborghini Espada will end without an heir. The owners of the time decided, in fact, to devote themselves exclusively to the production of 2-seater GTs.

A restoration was carried out on this car in recent times, with a total repainting of the bodywork: therefore no sign of rust is present on the car. The engine has been completely overhauled and many components replaced or restored to new. The seats show no obvious traces of wear, as well as the side panels of the doors. The original Jaeger instrumentation is intact, fully functional and embedded in the light wood dashboard. The three-spoke steering wheel in wood and metal is the original one.
Nothing has been left out to bring the car back to optimal conditions, the exact same attention to detail has been applied to both the mechanical components and the bodywork. The car was finally subjected to a careful and scrupulous inspection by our mechanics and every single part carefully checked. The Espada we are offering you is a second series, with "wing nut" wheels equipped with the famous 4.0 L V12 engine positioned at the front and capable of developing 350 HP. This 2nd series was produced only in about 580 cars.
